The Brigham Young University School of Communications prepares professionals to facilitate the transfer of ideas among people through mass media communication. The School of Communications, a division of the College of Fine Arts and Communications, is located in the George H. Brimhall Building on the south end of the BYU campus. Learning Environments The BYU Adlab is a student-run, professionally mentored advertising agency located in 140 BRMB. It is a creative communal space for all students in BYU’s nationally recognized Advertising Program to ideate, create, edit, produce, collaborate, and share their projects. The Adlab works with some of the biggest advertising agencies and national brands to create work that not only wins awards, but makes a difference. Graduates of the advertising emphasis in the Communications program are highly recruited and have produced some of the most strategic, innovative and creative work in the industry. ADLAB The Newsline Newsroom is an award winning, student run, broadcast news studio. The show is fully staffed with student producers, directors, writers, reporters, and anchors that produce live news and sports shows that are broadcast and streamed live Monday through Friday. The Newsline Newsroom provides students with industry experience and the professional tools for television while also teaching students how to apply their knowledge to the growing world of web, social media, podcasting, and more. NEWSLINE Y Digital Agency is a full-service, student-run digital marketing agency sponsored and housed by Brigham Young University. Student employees work with real, paying clients on actual digital marketing problems professional level. Y Digital Agency students master industry-leading software including Synthesio, BuzzSumo, Crimson Hexagon, SpyFu, and AHRefs. Y DIGITAL The Daily Universe, in 152 BRMB, is a professionally mentored, student-staffed media company. Comms students report for and edit content for universe.byu.edu, BYU’s weekly newspaper and several specialty magazines. Around 30 staff, advisers and faculty work in Room 152, which is equipped with computers configured for editing, routing, Chartbeat web analytics, management and design, editing photographs and designing pages. THE DAILY UNIVERSE The BioComms Lab gives students the opportunity to work with cutting edge biometrics technologies such as eye-tracking, facial recognition, galvanic skin response (GSR), and virtual reality, in order to complete projects for both academic research and client-based projects. Working in the lab is open to all students in the Communications program, pending open positions.
